What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a treatment in which a patient breathes 100% oxygen while inside an enclosed chamber at a pressure higher than sea level pressure (i.e., greater than one atmosphere absolute; one ATA).

Hyperbaric therapy is an old, established technology implemented as a new application, utilizing oxygen (HBOT), to help resolve certain unmanageable, expensive, or otherwise hopeless medical problems. HBOT is the primary treatment modality in some circumstances, while in others it is an adjunct to surgical or pharmacologic interventions.
