What is the Treatment Protocol for HBOT?
With many indications, specific protocols have been established thereby improving clinical outcomes, safety and cost effectiveness. Oxygen is a drug and hyperbaric oxygen is a potent drug that can also produce noticeable toxic effects if administered incorrectly. A high level standard of care must be followed. To achieve optimal outcome, it is important a patient maintains consistency and commitment with the HBOT protocol as ordered by the hyperbaric physician.
At times a response may take one to eight treatments for physiological processes to begin and 40 treatments or more for them to become established. Once the foundation is set, additional changes may continue for weeks and months to come. The number of treatments often depends upon the clinical response of each patient. Treatments may be given once, twice or occasionally three times daily, and can be provided in either inpatient or outpatient settings. Treatment times vary according to indication-specific dosing.
