
Since completing his education in biology in the mid-1970s, Steve has devoted his life to applying his technical knowledge to improving the lives of both patients and providers. In his 38-year health care career, Steve built on a foundation of 14 years of hands-on experience as a respiratory therapist specializing in critical care. He has spent more than 24 years in hyperbaric oxygen therapy immersing himself in every dimension of this technology including consultive, management, technical, and educational services.
Professionally, Steve was a founding member, vice-president and secretary of the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Association. He is an active member of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society having served as Chair of the UHMS Associates, Chair of the Associates Facility Design Committee, and member of the Facility Accreditation Council. For seven years, he has been a Surveyor for UHMS' Hyperbaric Facility Accreditation Program.
Steve utilizes his wide range of hyperbaric experience to provide assistance to hyperbaric providers on topics including: market analysis, feasibility studies, equipment specification and acquisition, facility design, training, hyperbaric chamber repair and preventive maintenance, regulatory and reimbursement issues and operational management consultation and support. He is currently developing an innovative safety device for use with monoplace hyperbaric chambers. In 2006, Steve was presented the Paul C. Baker Award for “outstanding contributions to the advancement of safety in hyperbarics worldwide” by the UHMS Associates. He is a contributor to the standard reference text on hyperbaric safety, and contributing writer for various industry publications. Steve is often sought to present technical papers based on his extensive knowledge of HBO as well as his appreciation for the practical dimensions of this dynamic field.
